At first, I wasn't sure if I could make the commitment of practice 5 days a week plus meets every Saturday (early, early, early) morning. Making the decision to be a "swim team family" was one of the best ones I have ever made. The girls learned so much - not just about swimming, but also about life. Their coaches were such wonderful mentors and role models and they worked tirelessly to teach the girls their strokes. We have caught the bug and I can see us doing this for many years to come.Amandahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11129964566184305419noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3992841446042171937.post-89744510574924086662011-07-15T21:27:00.000-07:002011-07-15T21:27:26.231-07:00Zoofari-Kindergarten Zoo Trip 2011 The MACLanders went on an overnight trip to the zoo this year and the next day, the kindergarteners went on their annual field trip to the zoo. Jeff took Maya overnight on the Zoofari and James, Marisa and I met them the next morning. Maya had a great time with her favorite teacher, Rachelle, and with all of her buddies. We capped off the trip with pizza at our favorite New York style pizza place and then with ice cream at our favorite ice cream joint. Can't beat that!Amandahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11129964566184305419noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3992841446042171937.post-13397767478222067872011-07-15T21:21:00.000-07:002011-07-15T21:21:57.755-07:00Jimmy's Graduation Here are pics of Jimmy's Sac State graduation. I am so proud of his accomplishments and of how hard he and Katie have worked for this. It is amazing that out of all my mom's kids, we have now graduated from college -- what a feat! Now Jimmy is on to dental school and the army. I tried to make up for it by making this special letter for him with some of his favorite candy. Her class explored positive character traits by dramatizing several different fairy tales. Maya played a part in the "Red Riding Hood" part of the play and was absolutely adorable and she had a great time practicing for the play. She sang the songs for weeks around the house -- especially in the shower!Amandahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11129964566184305419noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3992841446042171937.post-43296304758858740602011-07-15T21:13:00.000-07:002011-07-15T21:13:37.095-07:00Spelling Bee 2011 Maya was on the spelling bee team this year and she had a great time. It has been over 10 years since Sierra school has taken home a ribbon and Maya's team won second place. It went into an intense overtime with another school and they won second place by spelling "fantasy". Jeff had a conference down at the Disneyland Hotel, so we all decided to tag along. What a treat it was for us to stay at the Disney Hotel - it was swanky and quite convenient. It was so neat to ride the Monorail through Downtown Disney straight into Tomorrowland. We went to the park for three days - something we had never done before. With so much time (and so few crowds), we didn't feel pressured to hurry and see everything. We even got to go to some of the more obscure places like Tom Sawyer Island and the Enchanted Tiki Room - attractions we would have skipped during shorter trips. We were joined by much of our extended family, too. My mom, Aunt Mary and Aunt Pam stayed at the room next to us in the Disney Hotel. Cousin Gretchen and her girls joined us for a day and Rachel and her family joined us later. It was a very memorable trip - one that our kiddos will treasure for the rest of their lives.Amandahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11129964566184305419noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3992841446042171937.post-57732211448209050622011-02-06T20:28:00.000-08:002011-02-06T20:28:43.194-08:00Bugsy's Visit 2011

Maya's class has a "class pet" who gets to come home for a visit with each child. "Bugsy" has been visiting with our family - learning all about our routines and getting to know all of us. Bugsy had the time of his life at Giant's Fanfest and he has no idea that he gets to go to Disneyland with us. It is a special surprise that he will learn about on the way to the airport. We've had a great time with Bugsy!Amandahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11129964566184305419noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3992841446042171937.post-11379385226666371422011-02-06T20:25:00.000-08:002011-02-06T20:25:13.382-08:00Giant's Fanfest 2011

Jeff took Maya to the Giant's Fanfest. They got up at the crack of dawn to stand in line with the hope that a miracle would occur and they would get to deliver a letter to Buster Posey. Maya wrote a special letter to Buster and she wanted to hand deliver it herself. Just when they were about to lose hope, Jeff talked to an usher who made it all happen. Maya was able to deliver her letter to Buster and get his autograph. This truly was a miracle as there were thousands of people at the fanfest. Yay Maya!Amandahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11129964566184305419noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3992841446042171937.post-89067928049873269242011-02-06T20:20:00.000-08:002011-02-06T20:20:42.231-08:00MACLand Family Night 2011

Maya's class did a unit on "The Family". They made family trees, conducted an interview with a family member, and created a Powerpoint presentation about the family member they interviewed. The unit ended with a special "Family Night" at school where they did a presentation, showed us the Powerpoint presentation and played family related games. Maya loved this unit - a testament to how much she loves her family! She interviewed Aunt Mary and enjoyed learning about her. He was only a two months old when he went to his first game and he screamed the whole time. Thankfully, he had a lot of fun this time around. He even got to meet Sharky and had his "head bitten off" for the very first time. Jeff hunted all over the stadium to find Sharky and we're so happy he was successful. We went to the game with some friends and Maya had a great time talking hockey with her new buddy (whose holding James in one of the pictures). On the other hand, Marisa (who is not as big of a sports fan), had a great time being plugged into her i-Pod and watching Harry Potter. It was a great night for us all!Amandahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11129964566184305419noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3992841446042171937.post-53337570683354346192011-01-13T13:24:00.000-08:002011-01-13T13:24:52.447-08:00Just Messing Around Jan 2011

Here are some pictures we couldn't resist snapping. You'll see James hanging out on the kindergarten playground - he's quite anxious to keep up with the big girls. You'll also see some pics Jeff snapped of us while eating dinner. Marisa loves cheese, so they went to the Tillamook cheese factory to see how it is made. They went to some fun places they discovered on Man vs. Food like Voodoo donuts and the "mancake" place. They toured Fort Clatsop, visited with Mike, Jan and the cousins, went to the Oregon Museum of Science and Innovation and went to a minor league hockey game. It was a whirlwind trip. We decided to keep things more simple rather than trying to do too much (and get overwhelmed in the process). We didn't bake a million cookies and we went out to dinner on Christmas eve! After dinner, we went "light hunting" to see all the fun lights and we came home and sang carols. The next morning the kids opened their presents and Pat and Marc joined us for lunch. The kids had such a great time playing with their toys and we all enjoyed each other's company.Amandahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11129964566184305419noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3992841446042171937.post-89754793311796634182010-12-27T20:38:00.000-08:002010-12-27T20:38:16.071-08:00Robison Christmas Party 2010

This year Mary hosted the Robison family Christmas party and we had so much fun. A couple of things to note are the pictures of James with the candy canes. Something else to note is Jeff playing a wise man in the ward play. It's the first time I've ever seen him in a production (in almost 10 years of marriage) and I thought he made a fabulous wise man.Amandahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11129964566184305419noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3992841446042171937.post-63166210693771600962010-12-13T13:09:00.000-08:002010-12-13T13:09:37.349-08:00Christmas Tree 2010

Every year, it is our tradition to head to the tree farm of one of the counselors in our stake presidency. We have a great time visiting with him and his children while the kids tromp through the farm looking for the perfect tree. While searching for the perfect tree, they also love to find the perfect "Charlie Brown" tree - the smallest and scrawniest one in the lot.Amandahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11129964566184305419noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3992841446042171937.post-54232795441555382162010-12-13T13:02:00.000-08:002010-12-13T13:02:28.808-08:00James and Jamba Juice

Okay, so we love to take pictures of James! He's not at the age where he doesn't like to have his picture taken, so he is a fun subject. Last Saturday, Jeff brought home Jamba Juice for breakfast - what a fun treat. James is no stranger to Jamba, he knows exactly what their cups look like. When he saw the cups, he kept repeating "more" and signing the sign for "more". He sure had fun sucking down his smoothie. Thanks, Jeff!Amandahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11129964566184305419noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3992841446042171937.post-24389945449812592972010-12-13T12:58:00.000-08:002010-12-13T12:58:10.567-08:00James and Sunglasses

James has taken to wearing sunglasses - he doesn't seem to care that they belong to his big sister and they are pink. He wants so much to be just like his big sisters who are both really sweet to him.Amandahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11129964566184305419noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3992841446042171937.post-7791346409778446032010-12-13T12:55:00.000-08:002010-12-13T12:55:08.982-08:00Maya's field trip to Capitol

Maya's class has been learning about government, so they took a field trip to the capitol. Kudos to Jeff, he called our local assembly man's office and arranged a VIP tour for the class (he was also on field trip duty that day). The kids got to ride light rail to the capitol (which they loved) and once there, they had a picnic and toured the building. They even got to sit in the senate chambers and listen to the carolers singing in the rotunda. What a great way for them to see government in action!Amandahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11129964566184305419noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3992841446042171937.post-35415845978488395362010-12-02T11:12:00.000-08:002010-12-02T11:12:04.245-08:00Thanksgiving 2010

Rachel hosted Thanksgiving at the farm this year and we had such a great time. She and Jordan did a great job decorating and thinking of every detail to make the day fun for all. The kids had a great time playing out in the yard together, roasting marshmellows at the firepit and decorating sugar cookies. We feasted on the great food and the great company of our family. We are so lucky to have all of us living so close together that we can get together and have no emtpy chairs. Thanks Rachel and Jordan!Amandahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11129964566184305419noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3992841446042171937.post-58073402739845470842010-12-02T11:06:00.000-08:002010-12-02T11:06:56.701-08:00Jeff and Marisa Snoopy Museum 2010

Jeff took Marisa to the Snoopy Museum where they took an art class. Their teacher, a cartoon artist, taught them really neat tricks to help inspire and improve their artwork. When asked what Marisa's favorite flower was, she replied, "a dandelion" (she picks these "flowers", of which there are many in our yard, and brings them to her mom who puts them in a vase on the table). Their teacher told a story about a dandelion and drew her a lovely picture. They had a fun day learning and exporing at the museum!Amandahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11129964566184305419noreply@blogger.com0
